GP Super Clinics

Making it easier for Australians to see and contact a health professional when they need to is a priority for the Gillard Government.

Visually impaired to get a new feel for visual art

People who are blind and visually impaired will have a unique way to ‘view’ art when they visit galleries in the future thanks to new technology being developed at Deakin University.

Chance discovery sheds new light on vision

A chance discovery has led Australian scientists to question key assumptions about how our vision works.

Workplace eye safety in focus

Sixty per cent of all eye injuries happen at work, warn optometrists who are urging every workplace to put eye safety procedures in place as part of a new national campaign.

Seniors urged to get eye test to prevent falls

A simple eye examination can significantly reduce an elderly person’s risk of a fall, according to Optometrists Association Australia, who is urging senior Australians to get their eyes tested.

Good vision for life

Most of the information required for everyday living is obtained through our eyes, yet only 17 per cent of the population had a comprehensive eye examination in 2008 says Optometrists Association Australia optometrist, Shirley Loh. “This figure is surprising given how important our eyesight is to everyday living. Good vision is essential for driving, playing sports and fulfilling work and school tasks which is why it’s so important that children, teens and parents incorporate regular eye examinations into their general health regime,” Loh says.

Staying fit and focused at forty

Latest studies show that eye disease and visual impairment increase three-fold with each decade of life after 40 years of age.
