Combination therapy shows positive response for children with ADHD

While pharmacologic agents have a demonstrated efficacy in children with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), some children have suboptimal response to a single pharmacologic agent.

Protecting children from second-hand smoke

Research shows that children exposed to second-hand smoke have significantly higher rates of ADHD, headaches and stuttering than those who are not exposed.

Better support for parents of children with ADHD

There needs to be legislative, institutional and community changes to support the myriad challenges mothers of children with ADHD.

New ADHD study

A study has found strong links between receiving medication for ADHD and limited maternal education, single parent families and welfare benefits.

Play-based intervention trial for children with ADHD

The Faculty of Health Sciences at University of Sydney is seeking participants for a new play-based intervention program.

Extended-release MPH: Key Findings

Two pivotal trials support the sustained efficacy of ER-MPH.

Extended release formulations

ER-MPH formulations have been found to have similar efficacy to immediate-release (IR-MPH), yet provide additional benefits.

Clinical Pharmacology

Methylphenidate(MPH) is thought to block noradrenaline and dopamine reuptake into the presynaptic neuron and increase the release of these monoamines into the extra-neuronal space. Readily absorbed, methylphenidate has a short half-life, necessitating multiple daily dosing (usually tds).

Treating ADHD

Effective and well-tolerated pharmacological therapies are available for the treatment of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and, of these psycho-stimulants are the treatment of choice. The National Institute of Clinical Health Excellence (NICE) Guidelines1 state that ‘drug treatment for children and young people with ADHD should always form part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes psychological, behavioural and educational advice and interventions.’
