Heart Foundation Tick

Independent researchers have found Australian shoppers are increasingly
looking at claims to help them make decisions in the supermarket, with the
Heart Foundation Tick coming out on top as Australias most trusted
certification.

According to researcher Neer Korn from Korn Group, there is such a proliferation of
claims in the supermarket that shoppers are paying most attention to those that act as
shortcuts to making better choices.

The Heart Foundation Tick is by far the most trusted of these devices, partly due to
its alignment with the Heart Foundation, partly due to its longevity and partly because
people now understand that it represents a healthier choice amongst similar foods,
Mr Korn said.

The Tick tells shoppers that the Heart Foundation has looked closely at the product
and that its a better choice and thats good enough for me, he added.
The Heart Foundation welcomed these findings and was delighted there was such
strong understanding about the Tick and the role it plays in making healthier food
choices quickly and easily without having to be a nutrition expert.

The Heart Foundation Tick has strict nutrition standards which must be met before a
food can use the Tick. The symbol has meaning which is verified through independent
testing that continues on a random basis while the product has the Tick on pack, said
Susan Anderson, National Director of Healthy Weight at the Heart Foundation.
This independent verification is the only way companies can earn and then retain the
Tick on packaging, which is what makes it so trusted by consumers, she said.
